Mixing and Matching Isn’t Just for Clothing. It’s for Dating, Too!

Match.com Stir Events

You, too, can be too cool for this school

You've been there and done that. You've sat at a table at some fancy restaurant, or an interesting, hip-but-not-too-hip-coffee-place, with someone else, making eyes, guessing if they're into you or not. I've been there, too. It's nice, but sometimes, it's just not enough. What the H-E-Double-Hockey-Sticks (this post is profanity free, as a part of my profanity free Wednesday campaign) am I getting at?

Ordinarily, I'm not a huge fan of forced mixers and the like, where you get a group of people with disparate interests into the same place. It's a recipe for… uh… pooh pooh. This is gonna be rough. Anyway, you get what I'm saying? If you're going to gather up singles and put em in a room, it ought to be natural. Match.com is doing just that with their “Stir Events.”  Stir events range from large scale happy hours at local bars and venues, to more intimate, interest-based events such as cooking classes, wine and tequila tastings, dance lessons, bowling nights, rock climbing, and more!

I think these types of events are ideal to get out of your comfort zone, meet someone new, doing something that's… well, comfortable. This sort of thing is right up my alley because I think it does a great job of disarming people and encouraging them to open up; and let's face it, it's hard to do this type of… er… stuff in a bar, with blaring music. Not to mention it's a lot better than refreshing the visitors page of your OkCupid profile. Am I right?

Definitely stay tuned and keep an eye on these Stir Events in the future. They should prove to be a fun, if not popular, way to meet someone new. Just remember to leave your inner-freak at the front door and prepare to meet some fun-loving singles. And if you do go, be sure to let us know what you thought!

I think this is a great idea. We’ve heard a lot of chatter about how there is too much online-only communication. I’m happy Match.com is promoting all these types of healthy interactions. I like the common-interest mixers as well.

I totally agree. It’s a more natural setting which I think puts people at ease and encourages them to engage in more meaningful interactions with other like-minded singles.
