5 Easy Ways to Hack Your Dating Life

Hack Your Dating Life in Five Easy Steps

Don't wanna be happy like the two people above? Read on and see how you can hack your relationship!

Alright you bunch of nuggets! You’re slacking off! You are failing at making your relationship and dating life interesting. At that rate you are going to whither and sink into a deep dark hole of irrelevancy. Do you want to be irrelevant? Of course not! No one does!! Except for your Mom! Okay, that “mom joke” missed its mark; let’s move along then.

As I was saying, it’s easy to become complacent and cozy in a relationship, whether you’re married, in a committed relationship, polyamorous situation or you share a drinking bowl with your dog, named Harry Potter (maybe I have a dog with that name, maybe I don’t). Because it is easy to fall into a mind numbing heart crushing numbness, it’s incredibly important to take action! Using these nifty little ideas you can give your relationship a healthy jolt that won’t land you a karate kick to the pooper.

  1. 1. Join a Club – You might be thinking: “Golly, what club, worth its weight in tater tots, would have ME as a member.” You should think that, you’re a turd after all! It’s why you’re reading this article in the first place, right? There are a good many clubs one can join that can help bring the fun times back into your relationship.- See if your local radio station has a membership club you can join. Many NPR local affiliates have such programs, such as KCRW in Los Angeles. These memberships often have special events from movie screenings, to theater performances and concerts in a freaking park! It’s a good way to bust out of your shell.
  2. 2. Find a Social Media Meet up – This may seem like a no-brainer, but it’s worth mentioning! Sites like Yelp or Meet up often host and organize events to get together like-minded people and do fun things around town. Yelp often organizes events at bars or restaurants. Whatever you’re craving, Yelp may be able to help you find it. Meetup.com offers similar events that tend to be more activity based. That is, there are Letups for walking groups, hiking groups, or, hell, even Jiu Jitsu groups. If doing something more active is of interest consider checking out Meetup.com. Be sure to check out any local Tweetups as well. Those are not only great networking events, but usually provide a good time as well.
  3. 3. Opposite Day – No, don’t exchange clothes with one another and assume your significant other’s identity. At least not entirely because, as Dwight Shrute tells us, Identity Theft is a serious crime and no laughing matter. If you’re like me and the person you’re dating lives in another city, then try to plan something in their town. Doing things in unfamiliar territory inspires creativity and at least one of you gets to experience something new. If you’re married, though, it may prove to be more difficult. Instead, try planning out a day doing things you feel your partner enjoys doing. That way at least one of you is sure to be happy… Ya jerk!
  4. 4. Throw a Dart at Something Day – I should state that you shouldn’t throw darts at people. Not only is a terrible idea, but it’s the law. That said, take a bunch of events and post them on a wall. Try grouping them into different parts of the day, then take some darts, a paintball gun, or your mom’s dentures and then throw them at those events/ideas you’ve posted on the wall. Whatever you hit is what you’re going to do. Pro Tip – This works well with sexual positions also!
  5. 5. Take a Bus or Train Somewhere – Though I’m a fan of planning things, I also like the unknown, too. You can mix this up with taking public transport somewhere fun and interesting. Living in Southern California is pretty awesome because, in some areas, the public transportation is great. We have a train that we can take down the coast for the day and be back before midnight. Take the bus to a local farmer’s market, a show at a theater, dinner. Walk around and explore… Just don’t go to Boyle Heights, where Ethan Hawke went to in ‘Training Day.’ That place sucks.

Your posts always crack me up…but not in a weird or creepy way…LOL. You could also join a local community theater group. And it's OK if you'd rather eat ground glass than appear live on stage. You can be on stage crew, be the stage manager, run the lights, sound and…did you know that there are a LOT more women involved in theater than men? Just sayin' – good odds.

Hey Sharon! I'm glad I don't creep you out or make you laugh, um, creepily?
I actually really dig your suggestion!! That sounds like something I'd like to do just to "mix it up!"
    What else you got, woman?
