Of Hippie Gals & Women Who Mean Business
I had hurried across the street to Starbucks so that I could steal up a seat before the rush of coffee addicts attacked. Lucky for me, I’d secured my place with plenty of time to spare! It always starts slow; a few stragglers here and there, groups of people begin showing up and poof! A horde of people are lined up out the door at this Starbucks (of which I’m a mayor, according to 4sq). This is important because not only do I have my seat, but it’s a prime spot to spy on each and every person coming and going. I couldn’t help but to be transfixed by two types of women on this particular day.
First off, more artsy type of women really caught my eye today. Some people refer to them “hippy chicks,” and while I really don’t believe this label applies, it’s broad enough that I’ll be using it for this little article.
The first lady I noticed had blonde free-flowing locks, and was covered in a loose fitting tank top, tight fitting jeans and sandals. She wasn’t wearing any makeup. She didn’t need it, as she went about her day; I imagine her approach to the day doesn’t include lists or priorities necessarily. She flicks her hair from one side to the other and goes where ever she feels like it and enjoys each moment as it comes.
The “hippy” gal, if you will, really catches my eye in part because of what she is wearing, but more so what she represents to me. There’s this sense of a free spirit that has always appealed to me. This type of women, I’ve observed, tend to be very cultured and are very much up on the arts, whether it be film or music and everything else in between. The hippy woman, I feel, is that spirit that will introduce me to new places and challenge my spiritual side and push the boundaries of my comfort zone by exposing me to experiences that are foreign to me.
It’s this kind of woman that inspires growth. However, this hippy gal doesn’t seem to, in my opinion, align with my desire to own my own business and become a mogul and own a yacht with a missile launcher. However, the “dressed for success” woman with her hair tied back, wearing a power suit, complete with skirt and heels might just be okay with that missile launching yacht.
This woman strikes me with her determination and can-do-better-than-that-guy-on-any-day-ending-in-Y attitude. It’s truly something to behold. To me, there seems to be more control and structure. There is a point A and a point B, if you will. This woman knows what and WHO she wants and has the “brass ones” to go get what it is that she wants. Then there’s that confidence; the confidence that shows that she knows how to take care of ANY situation.
Obviously, these are two mental stereotypes that I have in my head. I know that. What I find more interesting than the two female archetypes I talked about is how women mix and match these traits.

Hippie chick for sure. The tightly wound hair means high maintenance in my opinion. And she would likely dump you if you lost your yacht. Just sayin…
Tough one. Probably hippy chick. Business acumen and balls out confidence is sexy as hell, but can create stress. Culture is hard to fake and more relaxing.
