Cloud Girlfriend Interview

A girlfriend for the cloud and social networks? A cloud girlfriend.

“the best way to get a girlfriend is to already have one”

There's a lot of wisdom and truth concerning the tagline above and I can tell you that I know this to be true, first hand. It seems women are more interested in me when they see another woman putting up with my incessant brand of b.s.

You may recall my quick write up on Cloud Girlfriend last week and I was merely speculating what they were doing and what their service was really going to be like. However, I don't like to speculate! So I set out to get to the source and get some info for our readers. Fortunately David, at Cloud Girlfriend was kind enough ot reach out to me on Twitter. I promptly asked him if he'd answer some questions for an interview.

He kinda sorta said “yes.'David states that the essence of Cloud Girlfriend can be summed up thusly, with some lovely words over at Why Mothers never Drink Hot Tea:

“It's like a big game. You'll know it's only virtual, but that little positive thrill is still there. Like when you play an RPG and you tell people you slayed the dragon and brought home the treasure. The accomplishment is imaginary, but the feeling of accomplishment isn't.” – Why Mother's never drink hot tea…

Alex: Where was the concept of CloudGirlfriend born and who's behind this project?
David Fuhriman: Cloudgirlfriend.com is a service and we have a network of real people, not bots to manage the interaction. There will be no distinguishing features on social network profiles. CloudGirlfriend.com will enhance and not dilute the experience of users on social networks. We expect log-ins, time spent on site and page views to increase for people who are connected to a Cloud Girlfriend. Besides, there will always be more profiles of dogs and cats on social networks than there will ever be of Cloud Girlfriends.

Alex: Did you consider doing Cloud Boyfriend?
David: Yes. Probably in the future

Alex: Can you explain, in more detail, the driving forces your service provides, at Cloud Girlfriend
DF: 1:  Social Proof — Cloudgirlfriend.com’s tagline is, “The easiest way to get a girlfriend is to already have one”. Providing social proof is important part of the dating process. We all look to cues to help us navigate through life. Blogs discussing CloudGirlfriend.com have commented about only socially awkward people needing a site like this. This isn’t true, but does prove the need for the site. People who use the site don’t want to be labeled, so they can use the site to jumpstart the process of changing social perceptions about themselves.

2: Placebo Effect — The users of the site will get a therapeutic effect by using the site. In Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs the base of the pyramid is physiological which is followed by safety and then love/belonging and esteem. CloudGirlfriend.com is not a new virtual porn site or an adult chat service. Those services attempt to fill a  physiological need, but it does not satisfy intimacy and friendship. Those things do not build self-esteem or confidence. CloudGirlfriend.com can fulfill Maslow’s higher needs, even though the users know that the interaction is virtual. They will interact with a real person and see real profile images of the girl with whom they interact. This interaction can build confidence and esteem as well as provide real training experiences in navigating a friendship and a relationship.

Alex: How can people find out more about your services?
DF: Register, spread the word and get an early invite.

I'd like to thank David Fuhriman, at Cloud GF for his time and for answering my questions. It'll be interesting to see how this service goes once we see it launch. We've signed up, so expect a review as well.

  1. Wow this site and concept just blows my mind. You're right that it's easy to see this and at first look just bash the people who will be using it and talk about how weird and nerdy they are.

But it will be interesting to see if the site works and how people use it. Perhaps there is a need, and if it works, I'd like to see if Cloud Boyfriend will help clean up the act of some of the sketchy guys in Los Angeles 🙂

    1. I can already see a couple of uses for it. I think that there's some good Spy Facebooking one could do from such a service. We'll just have to wait and see.

  2. It took me awhile to understand what CloudGirl.com is exactly…

My take is that guys can create a virtual (fake) girlfriend as virtual arm candy to strut around publicly (virtual world like Facebook) to increase their chances of getting a real (flesh and blood) girlfriend?

Sounds like Second LIfe meets Facebook. I believe mixing these and dating is a bad equation.

Being authentic is the best game if you want to meet women. If I found out the guy I was interested in made up a fake girlfriend to increase his chances of finding a girlfriend, I would think he was an insecure loser.

    1. Hey! I'm not insecure, or a loser! =)

Well, authenticity is ALWAYS the best policy. However, as a guy, I can't ignore the simple fact that women have been more interested in me when I'm in a relationship. That's just the truth. This service seeks to play on that social paradigm… I admit it. I'm curious to see where it goes.
