the Urban Dater 4 point Unh!

It's been a few years since we painted the walls and moved some furniture around and here we are! Welcome to the fourth major iteration of this blog in its twelve-year existence. Twelve years!? (Christ. I've got underwear older than that. Brb!) I hope you like it. As always, if you notice anything is off, let us know. If you smell something, say something!

the Urban Dater Through the Years

the Urban Dater through the years. From left to right: 2010, 2013, 2017. Unfortunately, I don't have the earliest layout of the Urban Dater blog. It was a beauty, built on Joomla, powered by gremlins!

Functionally, this site works the same as it always has. There's not much that's different overall. Primarily, this site takes full advantage of WordPress's recent changes to how it manages the content. The site is pretty much a block-first layout. The editing experience is improved. Hopefully for you, the content creator and writer, you'll agree. So if you get hung up on something, again, let me know.

Also, to the front-end dev team at OkCupid… Y'all rock. Thanks for the CSS!

I looked at one of my earliest blog posts, The Reason for Dating. First of all, it's total cringe. Most of my early writing here is total cringe. I wrote to entertain, I assumed a persona, and I had a lot of garbage takes on what passed for humor. While I don't plan to write here a lot, I will be more authentic with my voice and feelings in those times when I do. I've changed a lot in twelve years (this blog started in 2009) and the way I see things, particularly love, relationships (my mental health) have evolved/changed, much like this blog has. My writing will be reflective of those changes. I have a lot I'm going through and I have some things to share.

I've also mulled over whether or not it's time to shut down the Urban Dater. More times than not, I believe this blog has run its course. Today, right now, as I write into this editor, I have so much that remains unresolved in my personal life, my love life. Too much. Perhaps, because of that, it's not time to shutter this blog just yet. First and foremost, the Urban Dater has always been a place for people to share their stories. Sure, we have sponsored content on here but I think I may dispense with that. This site doesn't cost me anything to run. I have no reason to monetize it. It's here for people to enjoy.

As my friend Ricardo says, Have a great day. I always do!
