Guidelines to Live Blog By…

This is a gauntlet. It's about to get thrown.

I talked about “Ethics in Blogging” recently and it's had me thinking a lot since then. About? Well, about being more authentic in my personal blogging on the Urban Dater. Often, I'm handcuffed by how I think my friends and family would perceive me. I mean, everyone that knows me knows that I have this blog. But this blog has become a place where I can come and sort my thoughts out and get em out of my head.

I can't really do that if I'm always worrying about what I can or can't say or censoring myself randomly. I had to be really honest with myself, because it has to start there before I can be more honest with the handful of folks that read this thing.

What I can honestly say about me:

  • I cuss. A lot. If you don't like it, grow up and come back or get the fuck out.
  • I'm not perfect. I make a lot of shitty decisions. I'll share those with you.
  • Talking shit about my exes (not that I have any to talk about) is off the table. I won't do it. I do think that the act of doing so says much more about me than it does about them.
  • I fail. A lot. Again, I'll share them with you.
  • Ask me a question and I'll give you an honest fucking answer.
  • Sometimes I win and, yeah, I'll share that with you also…
  • If you have something shitty to say about me or this site, I'll post it. I'll probably tell you to go fuck yourself, but it'll be there for all (including my mama) to see.

So that's that. If you can deal with this, then we can be friends and you can read the fuck out of me and enjoy it a little bit more.

Phew!

I really think I needed to do that…

  1. Just wanted to say I enjoy reading your blog and I really liked this post. I think what you wrote is true of everyone, except maybe the part about cussing. As for me, I cuss like a sailor but I guess there are some people who don’t. I read on Facebook somewhere that a survey concluded that people who cuss tend to be more honest. I say hell yea to that! Keep up the great posts.

  2. My name is Joseph and Im an Advertising and Digital Marketer for Walt Disney. Cool job yes but tons of work. Being single has been tough as having free time to actually go out and meet someone is an issue for me. It also doesnt help that like Alex here I also do not want kids.

Before I wasnt really true to myself and not fully divulgent when dating on what my end goals where (not wanting kids) Ive hurt many in the past with this and I came across this blog here. After reading Alex’s testimony and reading his blogs on the subject it gave me confidence more so than what I thought I had before.

Ive met some amazing women all who wanted kids and it was then that I realized that I needed to stop hanging around them and focus on what I truly wanted. A cool woman who was like me. Didnt want kids in life and wanted to travel.

Well low and behold I am in Barnes and Noble browsing some books and I stumble across a woman who also doesnt want kids. Tubes tied and everything. We hit it off and she too admitted that she had trouble finding a good man who shared the same views on life.

So see Alex is right. Stick to your guns and just because you dont find what youre looking for now, just perhaps its because youre simply looking in all the wrong places. Dont settle. Thanks Alex… and I hope all is well buddy. I plan on calling you Sunday to discuss my website idea. Hope you can help. Take care.

    1. Thanks for the kind words, man. But I think I think you missed the point of this post with the comment. Just sayin’ =)

But good on you for finding someone. It’s not easy, but it happens for everyone.

      1. Na buddy I understood the point of this blog. I just wanted to say thanks and was too lazy to find a way to tell you so =p. How are things with you man? Any luck on the dating scene? I know that finding someone who doesnt want kids is tough but I did it so that means you can too!

        1. “I see,” said the blind man. Things are good and the dating is always interesting. Had some fun over the weekend and a couple dates this week. So things are good! Sunday should be a go, I think. But given that I do have something going on Saturday the timing might be an issue. Hit me on twitter.
