The Urban Dater Interviews Cupidtino. Dating for Mac Lovers.

Cupidtino. Love, Sex and Dating for Mac Lovers

Do you need more dating technology in your life? At the Urban Dater we're ever vigilent to bring you, our readers, the latest breaking news in dating tech. Perhaps you'll recall the time I used GPS to meet up with a date, only to run into my arch nemesis Sandra Bernhard… Anyway, we're not going to talk about that particularly traumatic experience! Today, I've actually got some good stuff for you.  I've interviewed the good people over at Cupidtino.com. A new dating site that caters to the Mac/Apple lovers of the world. Cupidtino has been featured on Mashable, Techcrunch, Gizmodo and a variety of other publications and even on SNL, so you know they're on to something big here.

Urban Dater: Since you started Cupidtino, have you noticed any similarities in your members that own mac/apple products? Are they creative? Are they musicians? Are they otherwise awesome in some way or other? Spill it!

Cupidtino:

We've seen that a large number of our users tend to be either creatives or geeks. We have thousands of photographers, musicians, graphic designers, ad agency professionals and filmmakers as our members. Often times, their creativity is reflected in their Cupidtino profile. Cupidtino members tend to be unique and it is reflected in their short answers to four simple questions which constitute a Cupidtino profile.

For instance, take a look at a very recent profile on Cupidtino: http://cupidtino.com/srh0828
Cool facts about her:

  • I love looking at light shine through trees, and am constantly inspired to take pictures of this
  • I love road trips
  • I love making collages
  • I am constantly late to everything because I get distracted listening to music when I get ready

You're my type if:

  • You think flea markets are fun
  • You're nice to waiters
  • You love music
  • You are taller than me (I'm 5'8″) or my height
  • You are adventurous
  • You have a Zipcar membership (I don't, so it would be really nice if you did)

Urban Dater: I don't think we'll see a real serious niche dating site for so-called “PCs.” That said, do you think one could be successful? Why or why not?
Cupidtino:

We doubt it, because there aren't any strong affinity circles around PCs. Saturday Night Live did a quick skit on Cupidtino in episode 21 of this season, where they joked about a dating site for PCs. They termed it “404 Not Found”. The fact that I'm using a Mac tells a lot about my approach to life, my aesthetic sense, my priorities and my identity. PC is so commoditizied that it doesn't represent a person's identity. We don't anticipate a dating site around PCs to be that interesting.

Urban Dater: How can I use my MacBook Pro to get laid? 😉
Cupidtino:

One word. Cupidtino.

Urban Dater: Do you think owning a Mac is a lifestyle choice? If so, how do you think that “lifestyle” came to be?

Cupidtino:

Diehard Mac & Apple fans often have a lot in common – personalities, creative professions, a similar sense of style and aesthetics, taste, and a love for technology. As Apple fans we love to hang out in cafés with our Macbooks and iPhones. Part of what we pay for is a chance to run into another geek who's just as much into photography, design, Netflix, hybrids, the BBC, HTML5, polar bears, Wired, Whole Foods, Coldplay and Angry Birds as we are. Cupidtino is like that neighborhood café where the people are hip, decor is classy, conversation is intelligent and prices are reasonable. But it's open at your convenience, folks are from around the world, and it's less awkward to talk to someone.

We believe these are enough fundamental reasons for two people to meet and fall in love, and so we created the first Mac-inspired dating site to help you find other Machearts around you.

Urban Dater:How does one become a member? Do we just sign up, or do we sorta have to prove our fealty to Apple, like blood letting?
Cupidtino:

Cupidtino is the simplest dating site to sign up. All you need is a Mac or an iPad to prove that you're an Apple fan. PC users are not allowed.
